Love Is Not Reserved—Music In Solidarity
A big part of learning how to be in Solidarity is unlearning what we have been taught about Love. We are taught that love is reserved for those who are like us, our blood families, “our people” and that love should be romantic or familial. We know that expanding who and how we love is essential to build the world we want to live in. Solidarity means learning how to love each other’s complexities, nuances and baggage, as people who have been oppressed and want liberation for all. That process is messy, and essential. It is not an easy love, it is an intentional decision to build movements with other people, despite the circumstances. You are in it knowing you might change, you are leaving your comfort, leaving what you may have because there is no other way to live unless we’re all there, unless there’s liberation for all.
For the Immigrant Beat Vol. 3 we invite you to think about songs in solidarity. Come listen to and share music, dance, hang out, hear powerful stories of reaching across borders and loving without reservations. Come to think about what it means to be in solidarity with the struggles for justice that people face in NYC, our home countries and beyond.
This event will also be the opening of The Window Project: Rest In Power. This will be the first of 9 window displays at IMI Corona that will launch a year-long project honoring the lives of Black and Brown victims of Police Brutality and working to build solidarity and challenge anti-black racism. The first window has been produced through a collaboration of: Viviana Peralta, Patricia María, Stephano Espinoza Galarza, and Marissa Campiz.

El Amor No Es Reservado: Música en Solidaridad
Una gran parte de aprender a estar en Solidaridad es des-aprender lo que hemos aprendido acerca del amor. Se nos enseno que el amor esta reservado para aquellos que son como nosotros, nuestra familia, nuestra sangre, “nuestra gente” y que ese amor debe ser romántico o familiar. Sabemos que el expandir al quien y el como amamos es esencial para construir el mundo en el cual queremos vivir. La Solidaridad significa aprender como amar las complejidades de otros, sus matices, y sus experiencias vividas como gente que ha sido oprimida y que lucha por la liberación de todas las personas. Ese proceso es complicado, pero también esencial. No es un amor fácil, es una decisión intencional de construir movimientos con otra gente, a pesar de las circunstancias. Estas metida en eso sabiendo que puedes cambiar, estas dejando tu comodidad a un lado, dejando lo que puede que tengas porque sabes que no hay otra forma de vivir, a menos que todos estemos en lo mismo, a menos de que haya liberación para todas las personas.
Para Immigrant Beat Vol. 3 te invitamos a pensar en canciones de solidaridad. Ven a escuchar y compartir música, a bailar, parchear, y escuchar historias poderosas que se extienden a través de las fronteras y hablan del amar sin reservas.Ven para pensar que significa estar en solidaridad con las luchas por justicia que enfrentamos la gente en la ciudad de Nueva York, nuestros países y alrededor del mundo.
Este evento también sera la apertura de El Proyecto de la Ventana: Descanse en Poder. Este sera la primera de 9 imágenes en la ventana de IMI Corona y lanzara un proyecto anual enfocado en honrar las vidas de victimas de brutalidad policíaca de comunidades negras y latinas con la meta de construir solidaridad y enfrentar el racismo en contra de la gente negra. Esta primera venta ha sido producida por medio de una colaboración de: Viviana Peralta, Patricia Gonzalez Ramirez, Stephano Espinoza Galarza y Marissa Campiz.
