Armed by Design Book Launch

After over 5 years of work, we’re excited to announce the release of a new, much expanded addition of our book, Armed By Design: Posters and Publications of Cuba’s Organization of Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America (OSPAAAL). We initially published a small booklet of this material back in 2015 to accompany an early exhibition, and now we have produced a 320 page, oversized, full color publication!

The book is quad-lingual, with all content in full in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English. In order to accomplish this, we worked with 4 different publishers: Common Notions (US), Rebozo Cooperativa (Mexico), Tumbalacasa Ediciones (Mexico), and sobinfluencia (Brazil). It includes hundreds of full color images from OSPAAAL’s output, as well as original essays and interviews by Lincoln Cushing, Javier Gastón-Greenberg, Nate George, Lani Hanna, Jen Hoyer, Sohl Lee, Josh MacPhee, Ernesto Menéndez-Conde, André Mesquita, Jane Norling, Vero Ordaz, Joseph Orzal, Sarah Seidman, and Jesse Maceo Vega-Frey.

Books will be available for sale, along with light refreshments. We’ll show a slideshow of Tricontinental graphics, have short presentations on OSPAAAL, and play a soundtrack of revolutionary music from around the globe! Come celebrate with us!
