Death and Taxes: Refusing to Pay

6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

U.S. bombs kill in Gaza. U.S. weapons continue a war with no end in sight in Ukraine. National Guard troops patrol the southern border. The Pentagon gets more money every year, contributing heavily to the climate crisis as the biggest user of fossil fuels in the world. There are plenty of reasons to be angry about how your tax dollars are used — plus all the people and planet needs that are not being funded. Come hear from antiwar activists who protest by refusing to pay some or all of their federal income taxes. In conjunction with the War Resisters League (WRL) exhibit at Interference, we’ll talk a bit about the history of war tax resistance practiced by WRL members since WWII and hear from new resisters. Expect an evening of stories, how tos, film clips, and plenty of time for Q&A.

“Taxes are not as certain as death. Death is death. And our taxes pay for death, but we can refuse this reality and begin a new one.”
