Make Space Movement Workshop: Creativity and Exploration for People Living with Dementia

When

Saturday, June 18, 2022

4:00 PM to 5:30 PM

Make Space (https://www.makespacetheater.org/) is a movement-based program for and with people living with dementia that is designed to stimulate creativity and imagination. Make Space is a framework that explores and activates the body as a resource to develop and enhance modes of expression and communication.

In May and June of 2022, Make Space is in residency at the New York Memory Center (NYMC) in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The NYMC is a community-based agency providing services to adults with cognitive, physical, and emotional limitations to help them enjoy life beyond diagnosis of memory loss. This residency is led and facilitated by Giulia Carotenuto (https://www.healingdanceandmovement.com/). This workshop will showcase the program as it was developed by Giulia with the NYMC community. It will give the opportunity to an expanded audience to connect to the work and creativity generated by the NYMC members who are living with dementia. In this workshop we will explore tools and techniques to activate our bodies as powerful communicators of meaning. We will explore how to find and utilize embodied knowledge and thinking. All bodies, movers, and doers are invited to participate!
