Join NY Writers Coalition for a free creative writing workshop inspired by Interference Archive’s current exhibit Armed by Design/El Diseño a las Armas, an intimate look at the graphic design production of Organization in Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America (OSPAAAL), based in Havana, Cuba, from the 1960s to the present.

Armed by Design/El Diseño a las Armas Portfolio

The Armed By Design/El Diseño a las Armas Portfolio has been produced in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name. For this portfolio we asked ten international contemporary political poster-makers, artists, and designers to produce OSPAAAL-inspired prints in solidarity with today’s movements.

The Persistent, Polarizing Protest Poster

Public spaces in which posters flourished are fading fast. The printing that made posters the most immediate and necessary medium are being eclipsed by other technologies.  This session will look at the history of protest posters, and spur discussion on the ways in which designers can harness the graphic power of posters for new visual tools that can help social movements to organize and communicate in new ways.

Interference Archive is preparing for its next exhibition, Armed by Design/El Diseño a las Armas. As an accompaniment to the exhibition, we have put together a collection of writing which discusses the intersection of graphic design and political solidarity work in revolutionary Cuba through the lens of the graphic design production of OSPAAAL, the Organization of Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
