3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Join Audio Interference, Interference Archive’s podcast, for an evening of music, art, conversation, and pound cake with musician Zeelie Brown, who makes electronic freedom songs. Zeelie Brown was featured in an episode of Audio Interference, titled Soulscapes. Listen to it here.
Zeelie will debut selections from their upcoming EP “The Breath of Thunder,” which explores threads of sonic liberation throughout the Black Atlantic, followed by a Q&A.
In “The Breath of Thunder,” classical cello techniques meld with archival sound gathered from former plantation sites and maroon colonies in the Gulf Coast. The resulting sound is a digital synthesis of pulse, wails, and groove. The EP is an attempt to jam the machinery of the global plantation system to bring equity to its place. The music aims to be a call to revolution, to voice cries of the Earth’s broken heart and to manifest the flood of care that our current global market system has held for ransom for the past few centuries.
This event will also be a soft launch of “Prints and Pound Cake,” an arts and food gathering that Zeelie is organizing to fund their research.
We ask that you please wear a mask at this event.
