Put Down Roots with Interference Archive
September 12, 2017
Interference Archive is moving, building, and growing–and we really need your support to make our new, long-term home a reality.
In August, we received a notice that Interference Archive had to vacate its current space by September 1 because the building we call home had sold. We had anticipated that a move was on the horizon, but suddenly we were faced with the immediate need for a new space. Fortunately, we found an amazing storefront rental on 7th Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and we have signed a long-term lease.
Now we’re putting ALL of our resources forward to ensure that the Archive continues to be a supportive, public space that honors the histories and material cultures often marginalized by mainstream institutions, while making room for today’s growing social movements. Every single dollar raised through this campaign will go towards direct costs for moving and building out our new, long-term home.

The new Interference Archive will serve as a renewed community hub. We’ll have a storefront. More room. More accessibility. And a long-term home in a super populated neighborhood in Brooklyn near tons of trains, buses, and bikepaths. Here’s what you can look forward to: greater access to one of the largest archival collections of social movement history; more than 80 free public programs a year (film screenings, talks, discussion groups); community-driven exhibitions that pull from the radical histories of activism past and present.
However, we need your support to create the new Interference Archive: we are making the space ADA accessible, and we are installing the temperature and humidity control systems needed to preserve our radical histories. We are building moveable shelving and storage that will allow us to use the archive flexibly. And while our desk-renters and sustaining donors help us keep the lights on and the bills paid, we need extra help to cover the large deposits that come with starting a long-term lease.
Interference Archive is a 100% volunteer run organization so your backing and support is critical to our ability to thrive. We hope you’ll grow and develop this space with us.
